Music Department: Kumaun University

In the D.S.B. Campus of Kumaun University, Nainital the “Music Department” was established in the year 1973. The Under-Graduate classes for Vocal & Instrumental Music (Percussion & Non-Percussion) are operating since the establishment of the Department in the D.S.B. Campus. From the year 2004, Post-Graduate classes in Vocal & Instrumental Music (Percussion) commenced in the in the Department of Music, D.S.B. Campus, Nainital. “Sitar” as a subject (at the Under-Graduate level) was re-introduced in the D.S.B. Campus in the year 2013 after a long gap of 14 years. In the year 2015, the Deptt. Of Music, D.S.B. Campus was successful in introducing “Sitar” at the Post-Graduate level as well. In the year 2014 three students were enrolled for Ph.D. Course in the D.S.B. Campus, Nainital. Under the Cell for Ethnomusicography & Film Making (CEFM) a “One Year Diploma Course in Music Appreciation” was introduced in the Department of Music in the Academic Session 2016-17. The Theme of the Diploma Course for the Session 2016-17 was “Indian Classical Music & Folk Culture of Uttarakhand”. The students of the Department of Music, D.S.B. Campus have excelled academically & professionally. Musical Concerts are organized in the Department at regular intervals in order to promote Indian Classical Music & also for the betterment of students. The students of the Department of Music, D.S.B. Campus are regular participants in Youth Festivals & various other cultural events.
